FAQ's

  • 1. What is the difference between a line grass trimmer and a brush cutter?

Line trimmers, also called grass trimmers, whipper snippers or weed whackers, as the name suggests, are fitted with hardy trimmer line which spins around at high speed to cut through long grass and weeds. Line trimmers are also helpful for neatening up lawn edges and can get right up against walls, fences and trees without causing damage. Rover line trimmers also feature a handy 90 degree turning shaft to allow for easy and precise trimming of edges along garden beds, pathways, gutters etc, without needing to turn the whole machine or work in an awkward position.

A brush cutter is the heavy-duty big brother of the grass trimmer. Brush cutters are fitted with a metal blade making them more suitable for heavier duty clearing jobs, such as cutting through thicker overgrown weeds or clearing blackberries, bracken etc. All current model Rover line trimmers can be easily fitted with an optional brushcutter attachment, giving you the best of both worlds.

  • 2. What is the difference between a petrol and a battery line trimmer?

Rover’s trimmer range has both 2-stroke & 4-stroke petrol, and battery-powered models available. Petrol powered line trimmers generally provide more power and a longer run time, and are therefore more suited to larger and more overgrown trimming and clearing applications, such as around large suburban or rural properties, or for those who just want to power through and get the job done quickly.

Battery-powered trimmers are generally less powerful and require recharging more frequently than a petrol unit would require refuelling. However battery trimmers are considerably quieter, making them ideal for smaller and more regularly maintained residential applications. Battery line trimmers also have the advantage of push button starting for those who dont like to pull on a starter cord.
