FAQ's

  • 1. What is the difference between a push mower and a self-propelled mower?

When buying a Rover walk behind mower, you have the choice of push or self-propelled operation.

A push mower moves via the operator manually, controlling the speed and direction by pushing the mower. Push mowers are suitable for smaller, flat lawns of no more than 1/4 acre because they require some physical exertion.

A self-propelled mower, as the name suggests, doesn't require the user to push manually. The mower uses a drive system that spins the wheels mechanically to advance the mower forward, with the operator setting the speed to keep pace behind it comfortably. For lawns over a 1/4 acre, the drive assistance of a self-propelled lawn mower will make mowing easier, faster and more enjoyable, and the added traction they offer is particularly useful for cutting hilly lawns.

You will pay more if you buy a self-propelled mower; however, the extra cost is offset by the time and effort they save.

  • 2. Which sized cutting deck do I need?

The size of the cutting deck depends on the size of your property and your budget. The larger the deck, the less time you will spend mowing as each pass will cut a wider section of grass. If you have a smaller property, or have obstacles that require manoeuvring around, a smaller steel deck lawn mower may be a better choice. The most commonly chosen residential steel deck size is 46cm (18") however Rover also offer larger 53cm (21") deck models.
